“Nonprofit” is a pretty broad thing. It’s like saying you want to work for a corporation, and asking whether there are any corporations hiring at the moment.

What are your actual skills? What issues are you interested in, and do you have professional experience working on those issues? Political or non-political? Entry level, or something above that? What do you do now?

I worked as a Youth Program Coordinator at a dv organization back in 2018 and since then I have also worked as a Research Coordinator at a university for Medical Marijuana Research. Have about 10 plus years of experience in the sector because I was working through college. I had to take a break for about a year break since middle of 2020 for personal reasons, but I happen to work as a recruiting coordinator for a short period. I applied to many jobs both in the recruiting world (not a good time, I know), and the non-profit sector and I am not hearing back. I am not working currently.

What sort of nonprofit are you looking for and what type of work?

Prior to the pandemic I was able to network well so was able to at least know who is hiring and apply. I feel like I am starting all over again here in DC.

I work in nonprofit fundraising and there are a TON of jobs going on our side, but a lot of our clients have had to lay off/downsize and aren't hiring as much right now. After the fundraising boom during covid, when everyone was at home and nothing to do but watch netflix and donate, people are getting back to their lives and donations are dropping off (normalizing, really, but after two great years it feels tough). Plus expenses are so off the charts that even more belt-tightening is happening to preserve the net revenue.

That said, check out networking events at the Direct Marketing Association of Washington (DMAW). Lots of nonprofits attend as well as fundraisers, and people from either group can give you some leads. I'll give it some more thought too!

Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Washington, DC (YNPN) has events, maybe good for networking?

Thank you. This is what I am looking for, networking events so I can make connections. I will continue to apply online as well.

Surprisingly, eventbrite. Decent options come up when you search with whatever keywords you need to narrow.

But I’d recommend narrowing down the type of work and/or work within nonprofit to find the right events.

Hey u/Alert-Glove-4852 I work in the industry and this is going to be highly dependent on what type of job you're looking for in the non-profit space. Generally speaking though I can point you in a few directions.

Thank you so much. My background is in the violence prevention particularly working with immigrant and refugee youth. I spent about 3 years doing this work and would love to find something similar if I can. However, right around pandemic, I had the opportunity to work as a research coordinator for a medical marijuana project and I took that job mainly because it was for MMJ. I was also a recruiting coordinator for a short period and was hoping to pivot to that career but right now isn't the right time it seems like. Some organizations had hiring freezes, so I haven't really heard anything back lately, so I am trying to figure out a different strategy.
