Metro used to use tokens?

Is that for the subway or the bus?

Wow, this brings back memories. Haven't seen or used those since the 90s/2000s!

Just found one in my room! Definitely hanging on to it.

Metro actually used fare cards from day 1 and it was revolutionary tech for the time (although BART introduced them just 5 years earlier, but let's ignore that). Tokens were used for busses and, fucking amazingly, are still legal tender for WMATA (page 23)

The inside of the M is one of the sharpest edges I've ever felt on a coin.

It says "Metrobus" right there on the token :) it's a little faded though

Used to buy those in rolls along with my red “student” metro card back when cigarettes cost 99 cents a pack and 9:3O Club was at 930 F street.

Haven’t seen one of those in decades.

When I was in highschool -- DCPS -- they'd give us a roll of these every other week. Weekly we'd get pink student farecards for the train. This was in the 1990s.

Thought so. I think I remember using them in the 80s. They had those little paper transfer tickets for metro-to-bus too that saved a bit of money. Maybe .25 to .40 per ride. Loved that.
