You can find sources saying it was one or the other, it's a debate overall. My opinion is that what they built is not an airplane. Imo, it changes based on the definition of an airplane, clearly stating it has to be powered or propelled, where the Wrights only took inclines or pushed it themselves, not actually propeling through air, as Dumont did. Thus me saying they built a paraglider, not an airplane.
