I wrote to Alamo today with my idea, copied here:

This is definitely more of a corporate suggestion/idea but hey here we are. Hear me out, convert the now shuttered Hollywood Cinema in downtown Springfield into a second Alamo location for the city. Build out The Backlot into the giant open lawn in front.

Step 1: Acquire downtown theater building. Step 2: Hold Gypsy Rose Blanchard themed event. "The Room Where it Happened" Step 3: Profit.

And this was the reply I received only minutes later:

“Thank you so much for your comment. We want that location to be a theater always.

But then we'd have to split revenue with ourselves, and then what if we both closed somehow as a result?

Still, we always love the idea of more Alamo, and we're sending this on to our owners!”

You should have seen the videos they posted before it was built. The vibe I got was the land wasn’t for sale but Jesus told him that’s where the dentist office needed to be.

I’m on board with all the cycling trail and green space improvements as well as unhoused support so I’ll add another: a larger and more functional convention center. Either add on to the current or build new. The amount of revenue that would bring to the area is potentially huge. It’s been on the last few Field Guide or Forward SGF plans I’ve seen but no real movement.

Second idea: if O’Reilly, Bass Pro, Prime, and Jack Henry among others continue to expect in-office workers then use your considerable financial influence to improve the area they live and work. Johnny Morris for example doesn’t seem to do any sort of investment that doesn’t also personally enrich him. Use Bentonville as a blueprint, Walmart knows it’s an uphill battle to get world-class talent to move to Arkansas so they invested heavily in schools, infrastructure, culture, and so on. Hell even that shit would enrich Morris, just less directly.

I shit you not the official industry category term for these is breastaurant.

It’s either whatever Farmer’s Gastro Pub has that day or Lindbergh’s with onion jam.
