I was wondering the same thing. The poor air quality lasted all the way until I got past Clinton… idk who thought it was a good idea to have everyone burn off their fields on the same day.

I’m in training right now for a job with the state. Still get to live at home in KC for the time being but within the next year I’m going to have to relocate to Springfield. I was in a pinch trying to find an entry level job right out of school so I thought Springfield wouldn’t be so bad since it’s somewhat close to home, but now that I’ve visited a few times I’m wondering why on earth I thought that this would be a good idea (despite multiple people advising me otherwise) desperate times call for desperate measures I suppose…

I feel bad for the cooks. They get raked over the coals when it’s busy but end up making 50% less than the average server, working as hard, if not harder than the servers. Doesn’t seem fair to me and some of my friends that were cooks got out of the industry because it made them so mad hearing the servers complain about “only making $100” that night when that’s more than they took home everyday.

Can definitely understand that. I’m a recovering alcoholic as well and I’d always smoke wayyy more when I was drunk.

What are some pros and cons that make you lean one way or another? Do you have friends and family in the Springfield area? Would you prefer a colder winter with a little bit cooler summer? Iowa is pretty boring IMO. Not like Missouri isn’t but at least we have KC & STL.

RANT: there needs to be an Amtrak line from Springfield to KC 😑

I know that STL and KC definitely can depending on the area, but comparatively speaking, I’ve been looking for 2 bedroom apartments with a garage and the lowest I can find in Springfield for that is around $900. KC is like $1,000-1,200 so pretty close in price.

The cost of living isn’t that much lower. Especially housing. I’ve been apartment hunting in Springfield and surrounding areas and the cost of housing is pretty much on par with what I can find in Kansas City Missouri metro areas.

I certainly don’t want to hear you complaining about “how no one wants to work anymore” or how understaffed you are when you don’t pay people enough to even live on. You can’t live on $13 or $14 an hour in Springfield or anywhere else. Sorry that no one wants to work for free.
