Absolutely. And also, when I was there, Henni was teaching, not Frank, and she just wasn’t that great. It feels like a good place to learn fundamentals if you can swing the cash, but then getting studio time elsewhere just to have the ability to practice for more than an hour a week is the way to go.

It’ll be interesting to see how their membership and longer classes pan out pricing-wise.
The best lessons in the area currently at the NJNY academy of ceramic arts are well known to be far too expensive and the owner tries to price gouge for every little thing.
The best value membership is Project Studios just on the border with Hoboken, at $150/ month including firing and glaze, 24hr access, which is an absolute steal. I can’t imagine they’ll be able to compete with that, but I’m not sure how many people would be willing to pay significantly more, given PS is a 15-min walk away/ 5 mins by car.

It’s not exactly local, but the Design Within Reach outlet in Industry City in Brooklyn always has a ton of desk chairs, including HM significantly discounted (and they’re usually one of the only things in the store that’s in great condition vs. smashed to shit)

Reply to Moving to Jersey City from UK by BerryFit3491
Hey there, we moved from the UK in 2016 for work, pets and all, so if you want to hit me up with any questions/ a friendly face when you get here, just drop me a DM.
We moved with very little knowledge of the local area and landed in Hamilton Park, which we have never regretted for a second. Walkable, quiet, safe, friendly people l, easy access to NYC etc. definitely not the cheapest area, and parking can be a nightmare, but if you can swing it, I’d recommend it.

Really? You can’t expect police officers to do their job? The job that they are paid for? Isn’t that incentive enough? The rest of us have to do our jobs or get fired. The police get to do whatever they feel like with impunity.
And sure, society in America is deeply fucked up. Ideally, people wouldn’t be stealing. I suspect you and I would disagree significantly on the route to getting there. But most of us work within an imperfect system and still do our damned jobs.
Would you suggest that EMT’s don’t bother picking up car crash victims because there’s always going to be some idiot who disobeys the road rules and makes it unsafe? Of course not.

Tell me how this specific democrat run city is preventing the cops from taking crime reports?

Come on. The reason the (largely conservative, unionized, fairly unaccountable to anyone but themselves) cops don’t take reports of e.g. package/ car thefts or traffic violations has absolutely nothing to do with politics and absolutely everything to do with the fact that they’re lazy and believe it’s beneath them. Or that they want to keep crime stats low, so they just ignore the most common crimes.

I mean, Jersey city cops also refuse to write reports or even take info about a huge number of crimes too…

It seems like half the daycares and playschools in JC use it for recess, which I'm guessing didn't happen in the past? Once the weather is nicer, there must be well over 100 kids from different places using it at certain times. And they're often digging up rocks/ playing in mud/ using sticks to tear at the turf, so the grass has no chance at all.
