This is the kind of stuff I’m talking about.

I’ve gotten lucky a number of times, once I got to my car right before it got hooked up in the lombardy Kroger parking lot, and the tow truck driver told me, “if I was 30 seconds late, it would’ve cost me $175 to get my car back”

Who knows what their bosses tell them, but a lot of these guys will convince you it’s too late

I think another important thing people need to know is that if you come out and you see the tow truck driver about to hitch your car, you can tell them to stop.

Tow truck drivers cannot tow a car if the owner is present and is able to move their car out of the spot (even if they’ve hitched it). Virginia law provides you that right

You know that municipal water is either traveling through PVC pipes or lead pipes, right?

Given that Richmond is a historic city, I would bet any property in this city built before the 1980’s (which is a lot of them) have lead pipes which that water travels through

Even if it is PVC, the type of plastic most water bottles are bottled into with recycling code 1, which is polyethylene terephtalate. I’d take that over polyvinyl chloride exposure

If you called the number listed for their law firm, and then they asked the same type of questions, then that sounds legitimate

I have had calls where people needed to verify my information by asking questions like that. The important thing is you verified that they are who they claim to be by looking them up and calling their publicly listed number

Those kind of efforts are an uphill battle. Most private apartment complexes that accept vouchers usually end up changing their policies after accepting subsidized tenants because of cases where damage done to the apartment far exceeds that of a tenant that’s employed and paying for the unit.

Your heart is in the right place, and you’re right about the problems of concentrated poverty, as you put it so well. That type of solution would introduce a lot of new problems to be worked out

Otherwise though I like your idea and the intentions behind it

Not to digress from the original question but I’ve always been interested by the idea of what the overall “shape” and “barrier” of the universe might actually be, after reading Cosmos by Carl Sagan he shed some light on that question, which at the time of publication there was some speculation that the universe is actually a 4 Dimension hypersphere, which could also be called a glome

An article I had found which I’ll try to find later on my desktop bookmarks insinuated one of the implications of this is that if you attempted to travel in a straight line, away from your point of origin, you would eventually wind up back where you started (I probably butchered that idea, but I hope it’s at least partially right in a broad sense)

I just bring that up since it’d be hard to define what two “ends” of the universe are

I worked at Mannino’s in Virginia Beach as a prep cook.

It was such an unnecessary amount of stress for just $9 an hour. At the time I was 21 and had low self esteem so I felt this desire to prove myself as a cook. I enjoyed being pushed to work hard but the level of harassment and personal bullying had a huge negative impact on my personal and professional development

I worked under a sous chef who got in my face and screamed at me over some really petty issue while I was plating a dessert he bought for a server he liked.

Their were threats of violence, a lot of deep shaming for trivial mistakes that are a part of the learning process. Territorial issues, and gross treatment of the servers. Male servers were called f****t’s and female servers got unsolicited texts and calls from kitchen staff that would get their phone number from the list of contact info for employees

I have so much regret for the year I wasted working there, and finding any kind of charm in such a negative work environment. Many of the staff tried to justify their behavior saying things like, “hey man it’s not personal”, or “hey in the end we’re one big family. A dysfunctional one but we’re a family” and that’s all a lie. It manipulates naive workers into putting up with treatment that should honestly be illegal
