Twin Peaks did a great job of reconning. Specifically Mark Frost. David Lynch would film some crazy abstract scenes and Frost would work backwards and explain them. (Bob, Judy, the Red Room...)

I watched the IT crowd it was an American version. Some scenes were identical.

There was a Different Strokes episode with a man trying to molest Gary Coleman and his friend. It was pretty shocking and disturbing but it taught kids a good lesson.
Unfortunately some would label any sensitive subject as being 'woke' now.

It's a good question. I have no idea why people are getting pushed out of shape.
I wonder how economical it is for stations to broadcast over the air. They can't gather data on viewers but maybe it's just people who get or want streaming.
