Probably trash from a logging operation 50 years ago or so. Perhaps when the power line corridor was cut.

County Dept of Emergency Management was pretty funny in their wind-chill alert this afternoon. "On a positive note, tomorrow, you will receive 2 more seconds of daylight."

Couple of reasons. First, hoar crystals growing on surfaces in subzero temps, glorious in the morning sunlight but with the structure of sandpaper. Also, much of your glide comes from tiny amounts of solid water changing phase under pressure as the ski transfers your bodyweight onto the snow, and at colder temperatures your skiing enjoys less of that.

Mazama tomorrow tonight: forecast low of -28F (source: those wags at the NWS). I suggest an extra helping of bacon. Those tracks are gonna be sloooooooow.

I sincerely miss this shit, but it is also why we are snowbirds in 2022. Maybe what I miss is being young enough to enjoy it.
A couple of hundred years ago, the locals all got the hell out by now. I think that they knew what they were doing.

Snowbird here. That sign feels like coming home every spring.
