I would be concerned you’re going to double your budget on the things not specific in the contract. We received a lowball offer for our basement and when we got feedback from past customers, they stated that the contract was so bare bones they ended up fighting over what was a change order and spent a ton of extra money.

Agree that this sounds too low. However, we did a basement down to studs for less than 100K. OP is not doing a full dig out, they are going a few inches, which our builder said would cost 20-30k. Assuming the basement itself should cost around 150k, an additional 100k for the remaining two floors is what makes me suspicious.

I ran the DC half this last fall. It was a shady route and the race was well run. There are only a few thousand runners so it wasn’t total chaos.

Starting and ending in West Potomac Park was probably the most annoying part but everyone just rode the eBike rentals in, so it turned out to be a non-issue.

10/10 would recommend.

This is wrong. Start with SSA. Your marriage license is just the proof that you meet SSA’s requirements to change your name. It doesn’t need to have your new name. When you applied for, and signed the license, you still legally held your maiden name.

Editing to add, when I got married I paid for one of those name change companies off Groupon. It’s actually very useful because they have aggregated all the forms for major companies and governments, and you select the ones you need. It then works as a template where you fill out your info once and it prints it on everything for you. And it produces a checklist for the requirements of each company or state government. Well worth the $40 I paid!

We bought a completely unrenovated house in 2017 and have been slowly updating it. We’ve never moved out for a renovation thus far, including adding HVAC, renovating (in separate projects) kitchen, front porch, sleeper porch, and a full basement gut. It’s totally doable but you have to take your time saving and planning. And you probably would save money doing it all at once but if you don’t have the money now, I don’t regret doing it bit by bit. We have spent about 200k thus far and still have about another 100-150k to go.

Pop-ups are very expensive. In the hundreds of thousands.
