Unless said "handyman" has being doing that exact work for years and is a Subject Matter Expert, maintains a license for that sort of work, and has a small army of knowledgeable workers to help with the installation, what you're going to end up with is an interminable project that tears up your house and might come in slightly cheaper than just hiring a company like Harp in the first place.

Also, the building department for your town/city is going to want to inspect the completed work. Think about that.

We used Harp two summers ago, cost us $12,000 for three wall units with the option of adding a fourth. Our place is only 1500 sqft though. And as mentioned, we had to upgrade our panel first, that was another $1000 or so.

Have you ever heard of the Martingale Technique for playing Roulette? The idea is that you sit near a table and wait for it to red or black a certain number of times, then bet on the opposite color. The longer it lands on one or the other, the more likely it will flip.

But wait! This is based on the human conceit that the odds get better over time. They do not, the odds of the table going red or black at any given time are always 50% (slightly less for roulette). You're no better off waiting.

So you see, the odds of the cops catching up to you were always 50%, even though it seemed like over time things had swung in your favor.

Growing up, I idolized city life. One of my aunts lived in Manhattan, and my other aunt lived in Back Bay, Boston. I thought it was so cool and glamorous and figured I'd end up in either city someday. As a kid, I wasn't thinking about the fact that they both had two roommates and lived in buildings so old, the elevators still had accordion gates.

Then as a young adult I actually looked at rent prices for anything resembling a "cool" neighborhood in either city. That was a wake-up call. Anyway, I scratched my itch by doing my senior year of college in Boston, then working downtown for two years after that. Now I'd rather live on 40 acres somewhere in Hartford, Tolland, or Litchfield counties.
