In their defense, they are awful parents who take advice from overtly manipulative talking books. They're just trying to emotionally scar her for their own benefit is all, cut them some slack.

And by slack, I mean elephant.

I would check with your doctor. If it's a whoosing sort of sound of liquid, it could be pulsatile tinitus or sign of high blood pressure or even an issue with the carotid artery. Best to check either way.
