I always hope we get to the point where UBI is standard, and you can “earn” additionally by making improvements to society around you based on whatever you enjoy doing.

Our smooth brains need AI, it doesn’t need us.

Exaflop refers to how many operations it can perform per second (a flop is a floating point operation). More operations means more power and the ability to perform larger operations in a shorter time. Or in other words, science go brrrrr 😁

I have a white collar job. I’m hoping things like this will augment my job so I can automate most of what I do with simple verbal prompts, and spend a majority of my time doing what I want while my AI assistant does most of my work. That is until we totally hit post scarcity and I can full dive into VR worlds for the rest of my existence.

Any sufficiently advanced technology will be considered magic. I’d guess people from 200 years ago would consider a lot of our technology “magic”. Not saying FTL travel is imminent by any means, but who knows what the future truly holds.

Can some ELI5 this for me? Seems like a pretty big step to AGI, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself here.

Agreed. If you look back at any pandemic in history, drastic societal shifts happened after all of them. I am hopeful this nonsense will finally facilitate the automation we all want so badly on this sub.

This is literally the second announcement of something like this TODAY. Unitune also announced to edit images with prompt. And here I thought we were already at breakneck speeds before today. Wild stuff.

The fact the US is on a weekly basis almost, is restricting what technology hardware can go to China to hinder their progress in AI, is a big sign to me things are really taking off.

I’m twice your age, I remember a time with no internet…I used encyclopedia’s for school projects. I’d say you’re safe to see what you want to see. The world will be unrecognizable when you are my age.

I seriously don’t understand how deepmind keeps publishing stuff like this a few times a week. 2023 will be utterly insane.

But there’s a big difference between choosing to die, and being forced into it. The choice will always be there to duck out for good.
