What did Buffy retcon? I've only watched it one time through, so I don't recall a reason happening.

I was working at a movie theater when the first X Files movie came out. During opening weekend as people were leaving some guy said to another "It leaves it wide open for a sequel!" His friend then said "No, it leaves it wide open for next season."
