Portsmouth library has a monthly french language meet-up. (also German, Portuguese, Italian, Chinese and spanish if ppl look for something in these languages) So you might be able to find native speakers there. Also the app meet up, check for native french clubs.

i am still dumbstruck that they burned it instead of cleaning up the spillage. i hope the residents and towns affected can sue them into oblivion. And I seriously can't buy that it's safe to drink the water. with all the fish dying I wouldn't go anywhere near water -.- This makes me so angry for the people living there.

unfortunately, the entire area in the south has a nonexisting housing market. If you really want a house I suggest getting a realtor up here to get it for you before you arrive. Rentals have an availability of less than 1% unless you are already here and can go in person, there is no chance for you to get a rental in the southern part of NH ahead of time. On top of that the price range you mentioned will most likely only get you a one bedroom. Can your employer not help you to secure housing?

Good luck!

i lived and worked 3 years ago in Portsmouth, but we have a dual income, so we were able to make it. However, many of my coworkers lived in the surrounding towns. We have since moved to a more affordable area and we are both working from home or dover

before you break your lease, try talking to your landlord. Also, keep in mind, it is extremely difficult to get an apartment right now and worst case scenario you are on the street during the winter.

Regarding food, don't be shy to go to a food bank:

Here is a list sorted by cities:

also, all CAP agencies have food pantries.

Apply for FAP-EAP pick the the CAP agency of your county. EAP gives you a percentage-based reduction of the electric bill.

And let your taxes actually work for you: apply for everything and see if anything sticks. Specifically you want EBT, SNAP

i also want to point they are really expensive for the little they offer. When my kids went there they did not offer lunch either. if you can get into seacoast community I would take that over almost anyone else in that area.
