My wife used to commute over an hour each way (without traffic) for many years. Bad weather, accidents, a butterfly farts in Japan...and that one way trip can nearly double in duration. The stress ended up affecting her health in the long run, and between that and the affect on family life, she dropped out her career job 100% for more soul satisfying work within a local commute.

I had it right after Easter '22. Some coughing, mild fever, but mostly I alternated b/w days of great energy to feeling like someone hit me with a brick (no energy). The worst was really Covid brain. I just couldn't keep things in my head for about a month.

$6-$10k+ depending on your budget and wattage requirements. I personally think that powering every breaker in your home is a waste of $$. Calculate the essentials (well pump, heating, fridges/freezers, sump pump, and main living areas) and be done with it. You don't have to light every room. Our previous home with about 2300sqft we got by just fine with a 7k standby Generac powering the main stuff. Our current home, smaller at 1800 sqft, has an 8k Generac but similarly wired.

>I wish I had a sensor for my sump pump

u/PatsFreak101 and anyone else interested. Very simple actually! Both my generator and sump pump are dumb. No smart features. But I picked up these vibration sensors. One is zip tied to the outflow pipe of the sump, and the other 3Md to the control panel of the generator. They report to the hub (which came with this motion sensor as kit, that I use to let us know if there was a delivery way down at our mailbox), and they have excellent range.

So for the genny, I can tell if it has done its weekly exercise OK (because otherwise there's no way to know if it failed unless you pop the hood). For the sump, I can keep an eye on its general activity.

The system is awesome for stupid cheap money. Now before anyone says it, yes it isn't perfect. If the WiFi or your ISP goes MIA, then it can't help.

We're on day 5 now without power, but Tidewater's fiber is still up. Everything is checking in and I know there's mail in the box too, lol. The peace of mind was worth it.
