I know. I used to commute through Penn daily too. A real architectural gem was lost!

Reply to comment by Duchock in New changes to 8th Ave create much wider pedestrian space, organize and calm a formerly chaotic place by Miser
It’s definitely been a lot better with these changes. I used to avoid 8th Ave at all costs when I bike, but now I’ll cautiously take it (though I still prefer 6th Ave). The posts separating pedestrians from cyclists weren’t there when I last used it; those should hopefully help.

This map also compares voter turnout in 2018 vs 2022. It shows turnout was generally lower among areas that favored Hochul, but went up in areas that went for Zeldin (SI, the Orthodox Jew neighborhoods)

Reply to comment by LouisSeize in NYC proposes strict Airbnb registration rules to take effect in January by Eriosyces
Airbnb takes a 10-12% (I forget the exact figure) of the listed price from hosts, and then tacks the same fee onto the guests, so for each listing, they take 20+% commission.

Reply to comment by TeamMisha in One result of Adams gutting local government: DOT has built 8.3 miles of protected bike lanes of the required 30 by GentleShiv
The DOT seems to be busy repaving streets that are perfectly fine. Meanwhile, streets in really poor condition (3rd Ave south of Atlantic in Brooklyn, Front St in Dumbo, 9th Ave near Hudson yards come to mind) remain that way. Idk if this is DOT or another agency, but they clearly need to refocus their priorities.

And they’re often blocked still by parked cars, trucks, and yes, the NYPD
