That deductible sounds flat wrong and I would run up the chain at the insurance company.

Sounds like you might have hit Canadian thanks giving weekend. Been there, done that and don't recommend.

Make a police report, with that police report number you can make an insurance claim for hit and runs and there is NO DEDUCTABLE in VT. Your insurance might play dumb but its law here.
