I didn’t mind Day of Soldado, but the first one is a masterpiece.

I disagree with your assessment, except for what you said about Angel. The inclusion of that character is odd. Personally, I would be pissed if some employee kept showing up to my house unannounced like that. I wouldn’t mind a version of this movie without him, but having said that he doesn’t ruin the movie.

Get Out and Us are horror movies though. What other genre do you think they are?

When I watched The Wire for the first time I also wasn’t a fan of season 2. However, when I watched the show again for a second time years later it played a lot better for me. I’d even go so far as to say I think it’s excellent now.

Sin City was in early April, but 40 Year Old Virgin was during August so that counts.

As far as big blockbusters go Batman, Star Wars, and War of the World’s were definite highlights. Didn’t see Fantastic Four and Mr and Mrs Smith until home video.

I’ll always have nostalgia for Summer 2007 because I was going to the movies almost every week. Though I know a lot of those big releases were considered to be disappointments by many, I still enjoy a good chunk of them. From the outset prior to seeing any of those films the lineup for that Summer was insane. There were so many franchise films coming out during that time.

I do think 2008 is THE answer to my question based on what I’m seeing in this thread.

Summer 2009 was a let down for me personally and I think it mostly had to do with being the writers strike that happened from 07-08. Star Trek, and District 9, Inglorious Bastards, and Hurt Locker were definitely the standout films of the season. I’m still sore over how bad Transformers 2 was. I was anticipating that to be the best blockbuster of the Summer.

2004 would definitely be in my top 3 for that decade. I even enjoyed a lot of the ones you listed that didn’t have critical acclaim. Van Helsing, I, Robot, and Harold and Kumar were a lot of fun at the time.

I didn’t know Collateral came out that Summer. For the most part it seems that August is a dead month for movie releases during Summer, but it is interesting that back then you had Collateral and Signs both coming out in August.

I still gotta go wit the Summer of 2002, but I’m fine with 2008 being the consensus.

Although I did want to say that I would argue the hype for Spider-Man in 2002 was just as big as it was for The Dark Knight.

Even looking back on it, I don’t even remember the marketing for Begins. The thing that stood out at the time was the extremely positive word of mouth.

It was so hard choosing between this one and 2002. This Summer season was fantastic, I’m one of the 10 people that even enjoyed Indiana Jones. But to get all these great movies and then the event that was The Dark Knight was just incredible.

I think King Kong was that Christmas, but yeah some solid movies came out during that time.

It’s weird to think about now but Batman Begins was somewhat of a sleeper hit.
