I haven't worked on enough guitars to say. I did build a very shitty neck-through once, so I can kind of imagine the difference, but I don't think it would have been that different either way.

Honestly, the biggest aspect that I appreciated was that the bolt-on neck gave me an opportunity to have a completely different finish on the neck vs. the body. Choosing the colors was fun and I think the contrast came out awesome.

Before high school, I somehow convinced my dad to buy me a 5-string bass, and it turned out to be my favourite bass for several years. As soon as I got another 5-string, however, this bass ended up getting beat up, and turned into a project bass - I was in high school, liked taking things apart, and had access to a wood shop. It was in questionable condition by the time I graduated, and it found itself in parts under my bed more than once.

In 2019, during university, I finally decided to put it back together one more time so I could play it again. Since I wasn't satisfied with the refinish I did in high school, I also decided to do another finish in the process. It's a few years late, but I figured you guys might be interested in seeing what I did. Hope you like it!

The reference RX480 VRAM and VRM modules are heatsinked to the shroud's aluminum "frame", which I kept intact. The GPU has been running fine heavily overclocked for over 2 years, so I think this worked.

Agreed that this is a big concern; it's the reason I decided to keep the fan on the GPU instead of just liquid cooling it.

This was an older project of mine that I completed about two years ago; I always meant to post it but never got around to it until now.

I love doing secondhand builds, and I especially love making them my own and pushing them to the limit. Really happy how clean this came out, and how well it performs!

EDIT: since people were (rightly) concerned about the VRAM and VRM heatsinking, I added a pic in the album highlighting this in case someone that wanted to do the same thing stumbled upon this post.
