If 90% of the false positives are people of color or women that's still a problem. Imagine you are going to an event at MSG & get stopped by security b/c of a false positive. Security usually isn't very nice to someone they suspect of being a problem. Being stopped by security for any reason can ruin an evening, and that's before you factor in intoxication or other factors.

They can.

If you are talking about double-clicking the file in a folder you have to set that up in your OS. In Windows you can right click & do "Open With" and select your preferred app. In the Open With menu you can pick "Choose another app" & then there's a check box "Always use this app to open...". Check that check box & pick your app, then next time you double click that file type it'll open with that app.

If you are trying to use the Open File dialog box, you can change the extension(s) it's looking for. You can manually type in *. followed by the extension. So for jfifs, you'd type in "*.jfif". Or most times there's a drop down next to where you can type in the file name & you can pick a file type or set of types.

The difference is that we can't save everybody, especially those who do not want to be saved. Tax dollars have to be prioritized, and while we should try to do as much as we can, if someone wants to live a deplorable life they should be let to & not at the expense of those who do not. The people who abuse these programs are the ones who give them a bad name so that the programs become the target for funding cuts. You are naïve if you think otherwise.

You obviously didn't read his whole comment, especially his conclusion. He specifically states that the issue is the program, those running it, and those taking advantage of it to remain the dregs of society. His complaint is not with those who want or need to use the program to help better themselves, but those who do not & actually make it hard for others.

It's news b/c tech companies doing it recently as a precursor towards layoffs. I know my area did it recently with our contract employees b/c we got our funding cut. As long as we had funding we were hiring more & rarely got rid of anybody, even crappy employees simply b/c they could at least do enough to justify their pay. But once we had to reduce team size or number of teams, stack ranking came out & the bottom rungs got cut.
