Thanks! I think that's what I was seeing elsewhere. I was there in October and Stevens Canyon was closed for construction and of course now they have the snow to deal with. I stayed in Ashford but frankly would prefer to stay in Packwood, which has a little more going for it.

I may need to rethink my approach but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

The Palouse area beyond the falls. They have been called America's Tuscany.

If you're going to go south a bit, I'd stop at Mt. Rainier, Snoqualmie Falls, and the Columbia River gorge near Hood River, which is packed with waterfalls.
