Norman doors! They're doors designed in such a way that you can't immediately tell if you need to push or pull. Named after designer Don Norman, who denounced them as bad design.

Handwritten notes would be easiest, but portable typewriters did exist. And libraries could have typewriters available.
I am slightly too young to remember what kind of copy technology my library had in the mid-1980s, but commercial copiers were introduced in 1959, so it's entirely possible that libraries has them.

Yes and no. Green bell peppers are underripe. But the final color depends on the variety. A red bell pepper doesn't turn yellow or orange, just directly to red. Yes, it looks odd!
Purple peppers and white peppers also exist.

The rest of the time he's 50 pounds of mischief in a 10 pound cat, so it balances out.
