No, see, that’s the genius of Weird Al, he’s not just making parody songs, he’s taking the piss out of an industry that sorely needs the piss taken out of it on a regular basis. It’s a mockery of the pretensions of popular music.

And the gigantic irony is, where do you think the consulting firms get their consultants? What kind of planners, engineers, designers in the tri-state region are going to have expert knowledge on building and maintaining large-scale subway and light rail systems? MTA employees! So many of these consulting firms are just hiring ex-MTA employees who end up doing the exact same thing they were doing last year except now it costs the MTA three times as much as it used to.

TBF there’s a lot of support services involved in a homeless shelter that aren’t part of a typical rental apartment. Of course, there’s a lot of issues with waste, mismanagement, straight up graft, but comparing shelter cost per tenant to apartment rents is apples to oranges.

I’m all for adding more housing but it needs to be done in a way that ensures truly affordable and supportive housing, not the City and State burning through tax dollars just to have it handed over to private landlords reaping inflated rents off that public investment.
