Reply to TIL your computer keyboard is 20,589 times dirtier than a toilet seat. The average office keyboard has 3,543,000 colony-forming units (CFU) of bacteria per square inch while your average toilet seat only has 172 CFU per square inch by SappyGilmore
But no sweaty fat men have sat on my keyboard. If you had to lick one of them, I’d still rather lick a keyboard.

Reply to Qatar not looking good as clearly the least sustainable country in the world on a per capita basis. by alexjones85
I would really like to know what part of their emissions are due just to residential and commercial air conditioning. I know their total emissions are very high but if they literally implemented every energy conservation method know to man, they still have to cool their homes to something less hot than the third layer of hell. They will probably always be towards the top of this list but that is at least partially unavoidable due to their location in a very hot area.

Drop in EV batteries have been thoroughly explored and the industry has not found them to be viable yet. They are massively heavy and swapping something that weighs well over 1,000lbs cannot be done as quickly as just charging the battery from a fast 480V charger.
Similar for dropping in an EV motor into an existing gas vehicle. That is a massive structural change and by the time you get into replacing the frame, it’s cheaper to get a new vehicle. Sure it can be done in a lab but it is not large scale commercially feasible.

Reply to USA MLS Home Listings with Price Reduction, as a Percent of Active Listings, by County, September, 2022 [OC] by michigician
It’s important to note that in most areas even tho the price of the home is going down, the total monthly cost of ownership is going up because the decrease in purchase price is outweighed by the increase in interest cost. This is still not good news for people who are priced out of the home market.

Supersonic flight- if you have to ask how much it costs, you can’t afford it.

I’d be more scared of the one with no known links. Like what did he do to hide it? He’s probably the sketchiest one here.

Reply to TIL Margaret Knight (1838-1914) invented a machine to mass produce flat-bottomed paper bags and, after winning a lawsuit against a fraudster who copied her design, the patent was issued in 1871. Her first invention was when she was 12 years old (and began working in a factory). She had 87 patents. by WonderWmn212
Not saying this is the case here, but having many patents is not evidence of high intelligence. Oftentimes that just means someone hired a really good lawyer.
