You should be the one to explain to the economically disadvantaged families at Fox that their school shouldn't be allowed to fundraise for itself because some of other families are too wealthy.
You point to the disparity between city and county schools, and then propose actions that would only widen those divides.

Jesus Christ dude, you're willing to throw away a school with a 44% economically disadvantaged student body because your ideology says it's not ok to help rich white people too. This is a bullshit take and a big part of the reason RPS and Richmond as a whole struggle to make progress.

I agree, and good teachers are where the rubber meets the road in education. Good teachers deserve good pay, good facilities, and good administration. All of these cost money that isn't there without full, or close to full, utilization. And even if you could snap your fingers and get full utilization, there are the challenges of years of deferred maintenance due to years of chronic underfunding. There aren't easy answers and there are way more paths that lead to failure than success. The only way out is to honestly acknowledge the challenges and tradeoffs and come up with a balanced solution with the correct incentives for long term success.

I don't think you're necessarily wrong here, but I think the catch is that there are currently no functional alternatives. The result is that city schools gets stuck in an endless feedback loop of poor performance.

The fact that you are getting down voted for this just goes to show how detached from reality some folks on here are.
I'd be very curious to know how many of them have kids in RPS or actually talk to RPS teachers or admin.

Yeah but being dismissive of the facts because you don't like the messenger won't help anything.

I don't agree with everything Jonathan Young does but he's absolutely correct here. If it wasn't for outside reporting the public wouldn't know the specific negligence of RPS facilities that led to the insurance company denying the claim.
It's not Young's fault RPS facilities Bobby Hathaway ignored the requests of his staff to fix the alarm issue and hung up on the deputy fire marshal who was trying to get a resolution.
All of that was uncovered by the press using FOIAs while RPS just bullshitted and pointed fingers.

You don't even need to go to facebook. There are people who trip all over themselves on these posts to say we should let this go because they're not hurting anyone and it would be dangerous to try and stop them.
Good riddance to these 3 assholes, and here's to one less stolen gun being on the street.
