to be honest. i'm often surprised cars aren't hacked more often :)

yeah, all good points. I know its possible to hack a CAN-bus (check out the Open Garages movement for example https://github.com/OpenGarages/ or Car hacking village https://www.carhackingvillage.com/) but from what I understand its pretty easy to hack a car just using an app, as there are so many third-parties with security vulnerabilities. https://www.extremetech.com/cars/179556-teslas-model-s-can-be-located-unlocked-and-burglarized-with-a-simple-hack

i'm not sure to be honest, how accurate are hardware sensors?

I'm interested in connected cars and this is a fascinating use case of CAN bus data as a conduit for gaining data insights from a vehicle without needing to rely on hardware sensors – these seem to be more vulnerable to the moving car environment than I thought, and prone to failure after a relatively short time.

hmm like a digital version of the dieting diary where you track all situational factors every time you eat. I can see some merit, but I'd be curious what their customer base would be and who would actually fund them to scale?

I can't help wondering what would happen if all this money was invested in buses (both on-demand and scheduled to accommodate those in rural areas where it's arguably too expensive to have a regular schedule) and trains.
We have an ageing population globally, and given the delays/lack of scale /etc of autonomous shuttles and cars, there's going to be a whole lot of people prohibited from accessing in-person services and participating in daily life.
Hyperloop will not happen anytime soon, they are still in the R&D and partnerships phase by and large.

yeah I mean as someone who has never been able to drive due to crappy eyesight, I want autonomous vehicles to work at scale. I don't see it as a quick process, the work that companies like Didi, Cruise, and Waymo are doing are just the tip of the iceberg long term and the more expertise and R&D in the sector (especially if projects are shuttered and teams move to competitors) the better.
