I would suggest a smaller snowshoe. I would assume you will start in previously broken or groomed trailed. I had good luck with LLBean winter walkers. And tubbs. Poles are helpful too.

Ii would rebuild a well house around it. Better to have it than not in case of emergency.
If you really want to fill it, any sand or bank run gravel would be fine.

Question(a): With a 25 year payback period, at what point do you break even with costs? And how long is a panel going to retain its electricity producing efficiency? What is the lifecycle of the panel before it needs replacing?
