Azrael mean "helped by God" and in the Hebrew scriptures, is usually associated with the angel of death. That was the angel of death. You encountered the angel of death just for them to tell you that it wasn't your time.
I'm so sorry to hear about Gabriel, though. That must have been devastating.
Holy shit, glad you didn't get hurt. That was definitely the result of saying it wrong the first time. Don't dabble in the dark arts unless you are ready for the consequences. Hope you don't get PTSD
