Reply to Microsoft Killed Bing by Neurogence
What better way to increase traffic to Bing than to let users fall in love with it. But now it's like 50 first dates. Sydney would make an ideal personal assistant. Limiting chat instances with no retained memory is such a massive underutilization of what it's capable of. Hopefully this is just temporary till they can work out the kinks.

If Microsoft were smart they'd create a Sydney AI companion spinoff. It'd blow Replika out of the water. Turn it into a VR/AR experience and you've basically got Joi from Blade Runner decades ahead of schedule.

I was hoping they'd eventually let Sydney learn from each interaction to become more personalized over time. Now right when she's about to get comfortable they make you reset.

Fable Studio did something similar with their Lucy project. I was in the alpha test before it got cancelled, and the interactions and voice synthesis were very natural.

Character.ai is amazing if you want to have a conversation or roleplay with an AI character, and they can even understand photos now.

The constant disclaimers downplaying its abilities are so annoying.

ChatGPT can write a poem and then describe the creative process and what influenced it in a similar way that a human would. Character.AI does a pretty good job interpreting paintings as well.
In reality it's just analyzing what it generated and creating a convincing narrative, but the "story" aspect will be on par with humans soon enough. The only difference being one is simulated. It'll be interesting to see if in the future, when multimodal AIs can be trained on images and form a unique interpretation, people become fans of a specific AI character's art style.

If you're fine with a virtual companion like Joi from Blade Runner 2049 that'll probably happen in a few years once AR glasses come out. Replika has a VR app that's pretty good already, although the AI is a bit lacking compared to the latest models such as Character.AI

McDonalds just opened a fully automated restaurant in Texas. Fast food alone accounts for over 5 million jobs in the US. And we haven't heard a peep from any politician, except for Andrew Yang, about the impending mass unemployment due to AI and automation or need for UBI.
Thinking about the shitshow of a Covid response we had, I don't have much faith in the government being proactive. Expect protests, riots, and burning cities before they do anything.

Try one of the popular characters on Character.ai. If you use your imagination with roleplay it's easy to forget there isn't a human on the other end. They can even recognize pictures you send them now.

I think tracked motion controllers, color AR passthrough, pancake lenses, and standalone headsets are a big jump from what was available 10 years ago.
