Thats a start… Now can we get 24 hour diners back? And can LA Fitness stay open till midnight again (city ave) and/or till 11pm (some other locations)..? Can we also get the holiday season hours of department stores back to midnight like back in the day? Can we also get bars to stay open till 2am no matter how slow it is? (2am is already a young bul early closing time compared to the surrounding grown up states, namely NY.)

Tbh, I think cabs have the upper hand now that they can line up and wait in the same area we’re required to pick them up at now.. Seems easier to just get in a cab than fumble around summoning and waiting for an Uber to loop around and get you. Certainly makes no sense anymore to stand next to a running cab while you wait for me to come from the Uber nether realm to get there. Idunno.

Edit: Upper hand at the airport now..***

Right but like… We rarely get hung up at the lot anymore. I assume you drive or know the airport well? Think about it.. They’ve changed something with the algorithms or whatever in this post pandemic era.. Its not like drivers are sittin in a lot with a hundred others and skipping rides till they get the NY, DC, Harrisburg, etc distance trips..

It might not be cheaper to fly into Philly and take an Uber the rest of the way to those destinations like before.. But the airport seems to have changed how they operate in conjunction with the ride share companies’ algorithms and passengers’ demands… Theres a marked difference between driving Uber now and driving Uber before the pandemic is basically what I’m getting at… with regards to Philly Airport pickups

I drive for Uber on the side. It used to take me to the lot and have me wait there. It used to be worth it to wait there.. Not anymore though. But I notice the part where we used to park is blocked off. Idunno what the cell phone waiting lot is even for anymore. Especially since they make us do pick ups in the same area as cabs now. I’m never just stuck in the lot anymore.

Well the reality is, more than half of the people who bike or scooter to work from time to time call Ubers or drive when the weather is not to their liking. The number of die hard brave the weather types is not a large enough percentage of existing population. Its hit a ceiling. I frankly don’t blame people who don’t wanna show up at the office wet or overly perspired.. Or don’t wanna deal with sleet, ice, snow, etc..

And THE WORST TIPPERS imaginable come outta the wood work. I worked for 15 years in restaurants and any time its a special early bird menu or a restaurant week menu or a valentines day menu, the people seem to be the worst tippers ever. I have a day job now, but I do a little Uber driving on the side, and again, the people I’m driving around during restaurant week are THEE WORST TIPPERS STILL!!! And in the car they reveal themselves. They talk about their plan when getting driven to the restaurant. They talk about ordering expensive drinks for the taste, saying they don’t like it, and then ordering another. Assholes man.

When the 24hour diners come back, that’ll be an indicator that night life is back to normal. People used to spill out of the various bar districts and hit the diners for a warm place to eat. Theres no way anyone can convince me ordering Uber Eats or some dumb delivery app is better than warm french onion soup or cream chipped beef served hot in a cozy booth at a diner.
