Reply to How much money saved is the ideal amount to withstand the transition from our economy now, through the period of mass AI-driven layoffs, to implemented UBI? by Xbot391
It depends on your living expenses. It may not be completely relevant in this case, but in the r/financialindependence community they have the so called "4% rule" where you can withdraw 4% per year from your portfolio indefinitely. So, let's say you need $30000 per year, you would need $750000 in your portfolio to not having to work ever again. But if you are just planning to ride out a few years the amount is much smaller of course.
I also foresee that the 4% rule or even the whole FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) movement will die out once UBI arrives, for obvious reasons.

Reply to How will you spend your time if/when AGI means you no longer have to work for a living (but you still have your basic needs met such as housing, food etc..)? by DreaminDemon177
Gaming, coding, contributing to open source projects if I could, traveling, or just chilling out to some nice music

I have my doubts on the value of Crypto, but owning assets is indeed getting more important as we approach AGI / Singularity. AGI will cause technological unemployment and is thus highly deflationary. In that case it is actually preferable to hold assets that will appreciate in a deflationary environment e.g. bonds, dividend stocks, money market funds, CDs (certificate of deposit, not the one you can by in record stores!), even cash (cash appreciates during deflation).

Reply to Would it be a good idea for AI to govern society? by JamPixD
The current AI has better critical thinking and communication skills than >80% of the politicians in the world, so yes.
That said, the difficult part I think is how to control what and how data and information about society is fed into the AI, so that it will be as impartial as possible when making decisions.
