Also the comparatively very large pressure difference in a CO2 system helps! Say 1600 psi down to 600 psi, rather than say 600 down to 200. (Still may have flash gas…)

Expanders are essentially compressors run in reverse (in fact can be made modified from such) and recover some energy. They aren’t used in many applications because the work recovered doesn’t make up for the cost and potential maintenance needs etc

I believe one of the most important differences between the northern and southern parts of this map is also, in the north the transition happens more all at once, where in the south it’s more gradual - not all the trees pop at once. I’ve lived in northern and southern hot spots on this map, and individual trees still become gorgeous down south, it’s just not the dramatic “the forest is ablaze in the sunlight” thing you get in the north

I’ve noticed that the radar forward casting in the apple version is awful. Like you cross “now” and the entire storm front makes a hard direction turn.
So I don’t actually trust it at all, where with DarkSky and some other apps if they said “rain starting in 6 minutes” I’d feel fine going for a 5 minute walk.
