Many are "volunteered" without their knowledge. My dad got caught up in one of those schemes, and they basically excused it with saying they didn't wanna bother him with the paperwork where he asks to volunteer, so they just filed it for him an told him to show up for more days than he was supposed to.
Very few actually volunteer on purpose.

Reserves are mostly mandatory in Israel, not voluntary.

“Service”, rather than “agency”.

I'm not sure what's with the downvotes. At no point did I suggest they don't deserve it. I just find it highly unusual, and I don't think I've ever heard of this thing happening before.

I specifically said “living couple”, not just a living individual. The latter I understand. The former seems strange, especially since they’re both accomplished public servants individually.

Never heard of one named after a living couple.

Last time I went, I had an asshole try to skip the line where you get your passport stamped coming into the country. I wasn’t even in Israel proper, and I already had to deal with a jackass after 30 hours of traveling. I just about lost my shit.

I don’t get it. Why were you fired if you were the one who got pushed?

Is it still considered southpaw if the arrows aren't on the left too?

In the context of religion it's often meant to be a recognition of deities, not the degree of certainty you have in their existence.

Is it? I thought some versions of Japanese Shinto are considered godless (atheistic), but there's a belief in supernatural beings or spirits that reside in otherwise inanimate objects.
