There’s probably nothing to this, but was his hair a little wild? More on the light skinned side? Probably not gonna triangulate this one based on such a general description. Guess I’m more curious.

Had someone sorta matching that description be incredibly hostile to me last year near p and 14. Said he was going to kill me, called me a faggot (I’m not gay, nor do I look like I am), said he could beat my ass (which, given the height, I was not concerned about), said he got more bitches than me - just weird, pathetic shit. Just all this wild stuff. I just kept walking because that sort of confidence on a guy that small only makes sense if he has a weapon.

I’m not saying it’s the only cause. But as a basic fact of supply and demand when expanding housing supply vertically is prohibited and horizontal space is at a premium that’s inevitably going to place upward pressure on prices.

I’m not arguing that higher buildings make a place more pretty. Just that allowing them let’s supply keep up with demand.

This is a complex issue but it’s well known and established that it’s largely an issue of supply

I think the notion that if they were white they wouldn’t have gotten arrested so quickly will be a key factor. But this case was relatively unique in that there is no nuance to be explored, no further facts/evidence that could change the understanding of what happened, and it was all caught entirely on video. It was straight up just 5 cops beating a man to death. There’s no ambiguity here that might give the police chief pause.

Well if you’re against unions at least you’re being consistent.

They are public servants but they’re also people doing a demanding job whose counterparts in the private sector are making 10x what they do as executives. They need to be willing to make a sacrifice but it’s also not fair to place this level of responsibility on someone and then put them in a financial situation where they need a roommate if they want to live in an ok area.

And this is especially true if they’re being prevented from earning more than 35k outside of government, given that many presumably have established careers.

This seems reasonable. They do an important and high level job. And the cost of living is going up considerably. If your argument in support of unions asking for raises is rooted in rising living costs I’m not sure why that wouldn’t apply here as well.

I’d really like the see staff comp go up though. The pay for jobs like this are ass, to the point that the only people that do it are young rich kids.

The term hate speech means something different to different people. Im not saying this was not hate speech. I’m saying you can’t just tell me it’s hate speech and expect me to be like ‘well guess it was hate speech’. The media does not get to determine that for me.

I read an article to read what happened, not to get a link to what happened.

Journalists don’t repeat it because some people (who have a not insubstantial presence on this subreddit) subscribe to the belief that referring to something someone said makes you just as bad as the person saying it, but because the crowd who gets sensitive over that is so neurotic about so many things it’s impossible to know what the journalist would get in trouble for repeating. So they play it safe.

Yeah I’m not gonna act like any cuisine is objectively bad. It’s all subjective. I’ve tried it at maybe 4 different places, 2 of which were based on glowing reviews and a recommendation from an Ethiopian guy on restaurant and dish. But Ethiopian is strangely divisive which is why I say it’s probably not the ideal intro to more exotic foods.

Astoria DC. Schezuan, amazing, but very accessible.

Some have suggested Ethiopian. Personally I’ve found that you either love or hate it. I love trying new foods and Ethiopian is genuinely the one cuisine I just categorically don’t like, which I think is fairly common regarding Ethiopian (e.g. is the other side of the ‘I love it’ crowd). Would not suggest that as a first foray into exotic foods. But I’d you wanted to try African, Swahili village is amazing and is also very accessible.
