~$500 for 2 people, purely in groceries. Mostly from local co-op with more expensive organic/sustainable foods and the like. Less in the summer when our garden is producing.
We go out to eat sometimes, which obviously is more expensive. Usually $50-70 per outing.

If you pay money without signing a contract in person and physically seeing the unit, you are 100% going to be scammed.

I mean as long as your landlord is OK with it and so long as the chimney has been inspected, I wouldn't worry about it. No one is going to bust down your door and throw you in handcuffs for trying to be warm and cozy.

I saw Tycho there and the sound was badly balanced as well. But I was also wearing earplugs, so maybe that had something to do with it.

This was in Adams Morgan.

OK so then both were passed. What's that got to do with my response or the RCCA?

The RCCA is literally reforming the criminal code. By reducing almost all penalties. Including for things like sexual assault and rape.
It's got very little to do with police, except having them spend $50 million on retraining. Most of the changes have to do with giving lenient judges more power.

It gives much more power to the already very lenient judges. The RCCA allows for/changes:
-
Penalties for many offenses significantly reduced, from robbery/burglary to carjacking and illegal possession of handgun. Even sexual assault and rape have been reduced.
-
Bill removes mandatory minimums in the few categories that still hand them, allowing judges to continue issuing "slap-on-the-wrist" penalties, even for repeat offenders.
-
The right to petition the judge to reduce a sentence has been expanded to all defendants. Currently it is limited to those who committed a crime before they turned 25. Many judges grant these petitions.
-
Right to request a jury trial expanded to nearly all offenses. This will further overburden the already overburdened court system.
Among other changes allowing for repeat offenders to more easily continue availing themselves to the community. You can read the RCCA yourself if you have questions: https://legiscan.com/DC/text/B24-0416/id/2616873/Washington_D_C_-2021-B24-0416-Enrolled.pdf

It seems like organized theft rings. The post says nearly every other business on that street was robbed in the last 2 days.
I think most businesses in DC have been robbed at least once in the last year. Property crime isn't really a priority for judges/prosecutors here, I'm sure most of the charges get thrown out or reduced to something menial, if the criminals even get caught.
Which is why this particular criminal was pretty dumb. Assaulting people will get you a bit more heat.

Extremely suspicious. I wouldn't have trusted them, and you should never give out any part of your SSN to anyone.
Unrelated, but it must be your mom's birthday coming up! Is she still married? I bet she had a nice maiden name... is it Ellison? Hoffman? I bet I'm close!

Oh trust me, I know. Every time I hear them a part of me twinges, but I seriously doubt that law is ever going to be meaningfully enforced. Like the law banning loud vehicle exhaust, or jake brakes in residential areas.

Do what my neighbors do and hire a lawn service for the first time the entire year to endlessly blow all the leaves into other people's yards or into oncoming cars/pedestrians in the road/sidewalk with obnoxiously loud two-stroke leaf blowers.

Just be normal DC citizen and steal a screwdriver from the local family-owned Ace Hardware, and then use it to pry off someone else's plate (NOT screw off, you have to pry it off until it breaks something), and then stick it in the rear window of your shitty stolen Lincoln SUV with the useless muffler pathetically dangling off the rear axle like.
Expecting someone to have a printer, let alone one that works, is so boujie. Sheesh.

It also may not even be true... I live in an "affluent" neighborhood near Takoma Park, where most homes are near $700k-1mil... and like well over half the neighborhood are black families who have lived here for decades and aren't the transplanted doctors/attorneys/whatever WaPo seems to think have taken over DC.
