I understand. However - and I say this as a non-gambler, who believes the Everett casino is a stupid moneysink and that gambling institutions are generally shitty and even morally bankrupt to a degree - I think the reason lots of people are downvoting your comments is because a relative minority of Greater Boston Area residents with safe money have a significant amount of sway over policing fun people are allowed to have. Bars are limited. Venues have to be big, safe, family focused or corporate run affairs. Nothing is allowed to run past ten unless the Sox are about to win something huge. Compared to sports betting, all of these could be construed as worse vices but all of them are also essential for the vibrant culture many residents want to have and participate in.
All of it is a product of NIMBYism, centered in wealthier areas like Newton, Brookline, etc but the worst vices imaginable are well and alive in this city, and are undiminished by this cultural clampdown on fun.
Compared to the bigger problems this city and its surrounding boroughs like to ignore - even going so far as to intentionally block the reconstruction of vital infrastructure, like the bridge to Long Island - sports betting is nothing.

Maybe you were looking for the Brookline, Newton, or Belmont subreddits?

Accessible to what? The alleys they used to sleep in before they got housed? So long as anybody can afford the T - which is easier to get than not once you're housed, given that subsidized housing takes a percentage of your income instead of as much as they can get at market rate - then it doesn't matter where they are inside the Greater Boston Area.
For what it's worth, we're already at where you are suggesting. They already build public housing out in Dorchester, a hugely disproportionate amount. That's where the least resistance is, because nobody out there has the money to fight it. Boston's solution to homelessness and addiction is to put all of them in one place, away from all the tourists who take photos, and that's how and why we end up with situations like Mass & Cass.
If we're gonna talk about why the housing crisis is so fucking terrible here, it's because the most politically expedient solution has always been "Well we'll put another bandaid in Dorchester and that'll keep my poll numbers up". It's been that way for longer than I've been alive and it'll be that way until we're both dead unless something changes. We gotta build everywhere else and it can't just be yet more lab space.

Fuckin amen. Build them in Somerville and Charlestown and Beacon Hill. Build ALL of them in Brookline. Build them in West Roxbury too, and in Milton and Westwood and EVERYWHERE along the Cape.
Build affordable housing everywhere rich assholes near what is ostensibly a metropolitan center claim that their backyard deserves protection instead of people on the street.

If this building gets put into Roxbury or Dorchester, the nimbys HAVE won this round.
Roxbury and Dorchester comprise 50 PERCENT of the GBA's affordable housing. FIFTY PERCENT.
There's a reason this proposal isn't in Brookline or Newton. It wouldn't even make it to the stage that it has here in a town like that.

Reply to Recreational cannabis prices in Mass. plummet as dispensary owners weigh future by bostondotcom
Dispensaries don't need to compete against oneanother for my dollar. They gotta compete against the same guy I've known for years, and the priced he sells at.
That's why the prices are low. If I want bud, I can go to my bud. That's who they gotta beat.

How long have these trains been in service now? The doors shouldn't be breaking yet, but some of these "All New" Orange Line Cars(tm) aren't all that new anymore.

This is why rules limiting the production of various prescription substances are stupid.
Do you know what happens when you prescribe somebody their meds and they can't get them? They consider secondary markets. The Rule of Substitution is one of the first economic principles.
I know at least three people who can't fill their prescriptions but "know a guy". I really hope none of it has anything to do with this.

Reply to Heading to Salem on Saturday (I know, I know...) looking for best parking and food options? by backfromdeath
Then you know, you know. Food will be jacked up, parking will be impossible, and everyone here will either tell you parking is a bad idea or feel bad and determined enough to offer you erronously kind advice about "Well maybe you could try this one place at that one time," in the vain hope that maybe the other dozen people who know that spot won't have taken it hours before you even see the post.
Take a shuttle in, and take one in early. Make your reservations last month and you might score a spot on Saturday.

Thank you. I'm a lifelong resident and I feel rather strongly. I will say that we at least agree that gambling at the Everett casino is pretty stupid.
