A lot has closed that was great 10 years ago. The bowling alley and the cannery (a great performance space for bands). My pitch for Southbridge is that I lived in their downtown for a couple years. Although dumpy and depressed, my car was never broken into, and most people were pretty friendly. I think Jerry has since passed away (iykyk). Nearby to some pretty good restaurants, mostly in Sturbridge but some pretty decent in Southbridge itself. Margaux’s Deli is a really good sandwich shop too. Sturbridge coffee roasters is decent I hear. Good access to some farms to get fresh turkeys for the thanksgiving and farm fresh produce most of the year. Has access to west like dam with us a great spot to go jogging or throw a frisbee, walk the dog. My only complain is that it’s just too far away off the beaten path. Like I said, controversial pick. I get it.

If I can offer my own list of underrated (mostly) Western Mass towns. Sunderland, greenfield, Southbridge (controversial pick!), shelbourne falls, and most of the towns along Rt 7 in the Berkshire’s depending on what you think of Pittsfield (I think it’s fine)

Weirdly I actually had a nice run-in with my Worcester trash pickup guy. I was throwing away a bunch of shit that I guess is not supposed to be thrown away and he says to “I’ll grab it this time, but next time remember”. And I was oh, ok cool. He totally could’ve left it and slapped that sticker on it telling me I’m a bad boy.

Amazing. Would love to be in those uncomfortable board meetings the town will have. Btw there’s no way that gets passed. There’s no way the CCC gives them a license. And there’s no way the town approves it as a dispensary location. Great idea though. Taking big swings. Love it

Of course it was someone from western RI who complained. “I’m nevah evah comin back to the cape neithah!” I can just picture the 1990 bangs haircut bobbing up and down as she complains about everything that’s outside of her shitty town.

This has always been my take. If Russia were to destroy the us with all its nukes that assumes a few things:
Scenario A 1-that they are able to fire off nukes without any detection from the US without time to respond meaning they destroy the US completely 2- then what? Then the embargoes and sanctions are technically removed, but completely worthless. Russia cannot make any money or gain an additional power. That doesn’t guarantee subordination from all remaining powers. It more likely guarantees that nukes will already be in the air from other countries assuming they’re next.
Scenario B 1-Russia fires nukes, US catches them in time only to be able to respond with nukes ensuring mutual destruction 2-nothing is left, no one is able to make money or gain power when everyone is dead

This is always my point about New England conservatives. The hardest red of red New Englander is little snowflake SJW compared to a Bible Belt run-of-the-mill average everyday conservative (hyperbole). Even more so for New Englanders who are catholic and think they are hardcore conservative. The religious right views right wing Catholics as performing conservative cosplay. So when I see the rebel confederate flag in New England I have to sigh, then laugh.

Can confirm. Most people moving “to” NH from southern New England are moving there out of a perceived political kinship. People in Southern New England talk about NH and Maine as though they are the motherland. And it is always in the context of right wing politics or general conservative points of view. No body is moving to NH to “turn it blue”. If anything they’re moving there to turn it red. This is anecdotal of course

These quotes from these fucking contractors are fucking ridiculous lately. I suggest waiting for the next recession before hiring a contractor to do anything. These prices are obscene. I got quoted $20,000 to out a bathtub in an existing bathroom. Insanity

Yeah I agree it’s a great cause. I hope the final language of the law that gets passed is close to air tight. I just know from experience that the most “toxic” person in the workplace is the same person that would claim to feel targeted, left out, and discriminated against. I’m talking about boomer straight white guys while the act explicitly states that women, BIPOC and LGBTQA+ are mostly the victims of workplace abuse. I’m also aware that cause for concern is not a great reason to not do something. There will always be those who abuse a program and weaponize a well intentioned law. But if the program is helping more than those that are seeking to exploit, then that is a good measure for success. I hope the folks putting this thing together understand and take this concern seriously so RIers get the protection the deserve

A toxic person who is making life hell for every one else would have all the proof in the world. Are they worthy of equal protection under any law? Of course. But I’d be very cautious about potentially handing them another tool to become a weapon. My two cents. I read the act, it’s a wonderful cause, I wish you the best of luck.
