Reply to How much snow is Connecticut getting? by duskyxlops
For snow forecast, always expect the worse.
- get gas for the snow blower
- get the "ice" out
- call housemates, know what their overnight plans are
and so on. Better to over-prepare and only deal with a few inches, than to ignore the risk and get 2 feet.

**Looks at the US South, and it's shitty regional governance that can't solve local problems...like having pottable water.....**
No thanks, we'll keep doing what we're doing. "Big government" actually works when all voting-aged people elect it, rather than exclusively land/home owners.

Well, they mentioned they didn't drive.
I don't know what buses travel along the coast or Uber prices, but along cttransit, you can get from/to the Hartford area for free via the ct transit.

Your travel agent probably wants you to room at one of the casinos on the coast (prob Fox Woods).
However, if you get a hotel/motel in one of the towns around Hartford (the capitol), you'll be able to use the CTTransit line (it's our bus system). For specific towns, Newington's kinda nice. New Britain is okay, a lot of stuff is really close together in New Britain, too. Multiple options for supermarkets, dine-in or take-out restaurants, there might be a museum or two in NB but you'll have to google it. Plenty of movie theatres, but there's also The Bushnell in downtown Hartford if you'd prefer live-action plays.
Personally I'd avoid the coast right now. It's winter, you're most likely not trying to swim at the beach. Better to check out as many eateries as you can. We have a LOT of options!.

Reminder for those who've recently moved here from the south;
Mother Nature doesn't give a flying f*** how big your truck is or how "good" of a driver you think you are. Drive as slowly as the law/road signs recommend. The fewer fools stuck in a ditch, the less work our emergency crews will have.

Reply to Now that Putin has suspended nuclear arms treaty should we be concerned in CT? by IndicationOver
No.
Historically, nukes always have and always will be deterrents and bluffs.
The value of irradiated anything is zero. When every government in the world revolves around generating profit for somebody, no one can afford nuclear fallout.

Reply to CT's legislature salaries are starvation wages, $28k/year. You have to be retired or rich to serve. This is regressive and should be changed. by MormonReformist
How about you prioritize increasing teachers' salaries first? THOSE are more important.
It's good to keep the legislature's wage low. Otherwise, you get the problem the overall US congress has; people who use their positions to reap all manner of profit with just enough credibility to keep getting elected, all but guaranteeing they serve their entire lives.
Low legislature wage makes your legislature more honest as lame-duck legislatures are more likely to find better money elsewhere.

They can afford to rebuild.
The poor and the middle class can't.

Look up the CT 'Rails to Trails' route. It's not difficult, but it's nice to watch the scenery pass by while you ride.

Lot of stories of people getting murdered in the woods might do that to people.
Have you considered just going to a camp ground? It's a nice alternative to proper "ruffing it".

I like that the march of time causes each one of their hideouts/enclaves to become independent and do their own thing. Thus, when a new Fallout game comes out, you don't necessarily know how THAT chapter's gonna be like.
