It is strange that they felt the need to rename the walkie-deepy-metal-beepy.

That really doesn't pan out though. There are abuse scandals in pretty much every organization where adults have power over children. All sorts of religious organizations, religious and secular schools, the Boy Scouts, numerous little league sports teams have all had child abuse scandals.
When a celibate priest decides they can't uphold their vow, they don't automatically turn to abusing children, they end up with adults. There are plenty of stories of priests either dating someone secretly, or visiting sex workers. Sometimes, they quit entirely and get married rather than continue as a priest.
Whether or not celibacy for priests is a good idea can be debated, but abstaining from sex for long periods of time does not turn you into a pedophile.
