That’s only ~14% down. They’re probably paying PMI for a few years.

I’m salary, not hourly. Was making ~$140k when we bought in 2017. 3/2, 1200 sq ft coop in lower Fairfield County. Paid $480k. It was really, really tight for a while there.

Partner was stay-at-home when we bought. Was paying off $100k+ in student loans. Not a penny from family. Did have decades working, though. It was really tight for several years until my wife went back to work FT. It wasn’t the housing costs, it was childcare when she was PT.

“For all intents and purchases…”? For the love of science, does anyone employ copy editors anymore?
Also, if this guy is just beating the sports bets/casinos at their own game, he should fight this to the Supreme Court. The idea that those businesses get to bring down the state on a person for figuring out how to improve their odds is offensive to the very idea of a free society. Those businesses, like every business, takes a risk that some one will be better at it. You don’t get to ban the competition just because you start loosing.

BIFL for <$200? No. I got a used Aeron for ~$350 right at the start of the pandemic. I expect to pass that on to my kids one day.

Babcock Preserve and Mianis Park in Greenwich both have good hiking. I go to them all the time.

Reply to [UPDATE] Am I screwing myself by taking a job in a high cost of living (HCOL) area? I’ll be closer to family but the current housing market will consume most of the pay difference by FadewayThrow
No need to do a 15-year mortgage. HCOL area should see better appreciation. Being able to send your kids to public school is huge.
You need to do a full budget for yourself and make sure it’s comfortable, if you move.

Reply to comment by dptiv in This is my first year owning a car how do car taxes work? Do they just mail you a form once a year? And how much is it typically? by _camnoble_
No, I think that’s part of the registration fee. Car taxes go to municipalities, not the state.
