Reply to comment by adventuringraw in The two retinas are tied/linked together in the brain. Are they tied 1:1, so that each retinal point corresponds to the same retinal point in the other eye? I.e., each retinal point from one eye shares the same binocular neuron with its counterpoint in the other eye? by ch1214ch
I've heard the retina described as an extension of the brain.
It is amazing to think the foundations of those processing pathways can develop from genes.

Nice shot. I wish it was a little sharper but maybe that is the conditions. I like how the origin of it is hidden in the clouds.

It would be just as unlikely for there to never be earthquakes close to each other in time.

Reply to comment by picklesTommyPickles in When something is bent (a metal ruler for example) and returns to its original shape, what is happening on the molecular level? Where is the information of the original shape stored and what forces do the unbending? by JewNugget2525
Things like metal fatigue are due to creating cracks between metal crystals as they dislocate until they connect and form fractures.

You have likely experienced them directly when a cosmic rays hits you, otherwise you experience them indirectly from sunlight.

Plus it is commonly found in seawater. So if life evolved in seawater it would use elements available to it.

>Most plastic waste is traded within world regions, rather than between them
>Where does plastic waste flow across the world?
>Europe is the region that exports the most plastic, but it’s also the region that imports the most.
>This is true more generally. Most plastic is traded within a given region. European countries export most plastic to other European countries. Asian countries export most to other Asian countries.
>In the visualization, we see the flow of plastic across the world. On the left we have the exporters of plastic waste; on the right, we see where that plastic ends up. The height of each bar is proportional to the amount of plastic that is traded.
>Europe is the biggest exporter of plastic. But, it’s also the biggest importer. Many countries across Europe trade with one another. At the national level, Germany is the biggest exporter and importer – it trades different plastics with its neighbors including the Netherlands, Poland, Austria, and Switzerland.
>This is also true of Asia, where Japan is the biggest exporter to other countries in Asia.

Regions mainly trade waste within regions. The Philippines waste is mainly from Asian countries such as Japan.

Those plastics are mostly exported as part of products, not waste.

It wouldn't even make sense to have leaded jet fuel since the whole point of the lead additive is to prevent premature ignition of the fuel (knocking) during compression by the piston.
