Do it!! You have to! I was just there this past Thanksgiving (literally the day before the most recent significant eruption which was an experience in itself just driving around the island seeing the red sky all the way from the kona airport) and we went up to volcano park 3x.

First time to view during the day. We walked around a lot and saw the steam vents.

Day 2 we hiked across the big dormant crater that is kind of near the eruption. This doest look like much. But once you're actually THERE, wow this place feels like you are literally walking across mars (minus death heat of the sun)

Day 3 we went to the viewing spot at night. Amazinggggggg. The glow!!! W-O-W

Its honestly hard to describe or photograph with any lense just how amazing it all is. I cant ever find words. I was and stil am, in awe of it all. For me, seeing such amazing natural things like that really put things into perspective. Mother nature is truely amazing and us people are so small with our dumb little every day problems 🙂

Its just... you will never see anything like it. I think everyone should see it at least once in their lifetime.
