lifelong former NJ resident here. i grew up in Paramus in the 1980s and lived there until 2005, but stayed in Bergen County until 2022. the area has exploded in growth starting in the mid 2000s and hasn’t really stopped since. i used to think blue laws were dumb but you never had issues navigating around Paramus on a Saturday until about 10-15 years ago….and it has only gotten worse. the roads and infrastructure weren’t built to handle the amount of congestion that exists now. my mother still lives in Paramus and never in her over 45 years living there has she had issues getting out of her own driveway. at least one day a week residents can get a break from all the traffic. it really is terrible (the traffic). it never was as bad as it is now. it’s great that the area is booming and all, and since i dont live there anymore i don’t really have an opinion, just my perspective on why people want to keep the blue laws.

edit: i now live in the bible belt and we don’t have blue laws and people can go to the malls on Sunday and do whatever. but the population is so much less so every day here is like a Sunday in Bergen County

i was 26 when i moved out. my dating life was non existent and i thought getting my own place would help. was renting a 1 br garden apartment for 1,200 a month with a garage. all my friends were engaged and getting married yet i was forever alone. my friends helped me move in and when they left it was so depressing. i woke up the next morning to the sounds of my upstairs neighbor having sex. it was a depressing adjustment but i started dating aggressively because i knew sitting by myself listening to my neighbor moaning wasn’t a sustainable future for me.

it’s a good question and it is totally up to you on what you consider to be “good”. for some, it is rankings and test scores. for others it might be the conditions inside the building. i sent my kids to a urban school in a blue collar district and was really happy with the administration, education, and programs. the town was a little “rough”. we then moved to a “good school” town in northern bergen county and found the administration to be rude, snotty, entitled, anti-parent. so in my case, the good school wasn’t as good as the urban school in my opinion. i was in the minority because other parents thought the schools were just dandy.

it’s just like tsa workers. they have the power and they know it. back in the 1990s there was a little dmv in wyckoff that only did registrations. it was so pleasant and quick. i was so sad when they closed. now you have to give your right arm and say a prayer to even get an appointment after taking a full day off of work. so annoying what the dmv has become and unfortunately i don’t think there is a plan to fix it. i suggest if people start calling their representatives maybe something will happen?

you can paint all your windows with black paint, put tint over your license plate and never get a ticket but you have to become a cop first.

i can’t speak for myself, but my mother bought a case of single use grocery bags she uses as garbage bags since it is just her she doesn’t want to use large hefty kitchen bags. she also takes them to the supermarket to get 2 uses out of them. defeats the purpose? i have no idea?

terrible idea, it certainly is a slippery slope. there have been times I accidentally approached a car i thought was mine. likewise, my kids have done the same thing. we currently have laws that address the issue but just like any law, criminals don’t care about the law. then comes the enforcement aspect of it. cops are paid to enforce it with lethal means. just ask Eric Garner who lost his life for selling loose cigarettes.

it’s a decent town in my opinion. lots of towns in southern bergen county get a bad reputation but aren’t too bad. i preferred my kids school in southern BC over the one they went to when we moved to northern BC. in my opinion, the blue collar town school was run much better.

25? hardly with the cost of living and inflation. 25 an hour is nothing to scrub toilets or prepare your food. these people are working their tails off to give the haves the services they demand. 35 per hour is more realistic and at least you might be able to rent a small apartment and have a car and cellphone.
