I'd be a little worried - New Glenn doesn't even have a track record and it's less than 2 years from the launch date; it's a 2 year wait if they miss that window.

Who knows - but geophysicists can model these possibilities.

The underground oceans might also be some kind of eutectic - say water and ammonia. It lowers the melting point to such an extent that it stays liquid at temperatures that would otherwise freeze water.

Reply to A spaceflight disaster was narrowly avoided in 1972. A series of intense solar flares exploded in August, just months before the launch of Apollo 17. Any astronauts on the moon at that time would have died from radiation. As NASA's new lunar missions progress, the threat of radiation still looms. by EricFromOuterSpace
Not sure if that was the inspiration for the fictional Apollo 18 mission in James Michener’s Space?

Don't quote me on this because I don't know the details of the mechanism - but I don't think it is designed to be retracted; it's supposed to be one of these do once and done kind of design.

I don't know if they should even bother at this point - provided that the unlatched solar panel doesn't create any problems going forward. At some point trying to fix it might be more risky than leaving it alone.

Believe it or not that's a thing - they tried that (among many, many other things) to try and deploy the high gain antenna on the Galileo probe. It all failed.

Surprised that it isn’t a requirement there yet. It’s been city policy here in Toronto for years - the requirement is actually to use bird-friendly glass below a certain height.

I doubt it unless the customer is super strict and sensitive about these issues - in which case there are plenty of ethnic groceries stores that cater to their needs. In fact here in Ontario some of these ethnic community supermarkets are actually owned by the mainstream chains.

Pre-cooked bacon. The “real” stuff is still available at the fridge.

LOL, thanks - I am on the warpath to find the "perfect" rendition - I have multiple versions by Juha Tapio, Club For Five, Joel Hallikainen, YL Voice Choir, Larui Tahka, etc.
I also find the Finnish practice of visiting family graves and lighting candles on Christmas Eve absolutely beautiful and poignant.

I love how "dark" they are (unlike North American Christmas music, which is over the top cheerful). Varpunen jouluaamuna is my favourite.

Reply to comment by nacho1599 in [OC] Housing has become increasingly unaffordable in Singapore, more so than in other high-cost cities by earthlymonarch
The problem with the Greater Toronto Area is that there is tons of technically redevelopable land that aren't intensified because public policy shields single family homes from development pressure - this limits new housing to either the urban boundary, formerly industrial brownfields OR high-rise condos at very selected locations - which coupled with the rapidly increasing population is the cause of the problem.
There are some commonalities with Singapore though - in that housing is considered an asset for future retirement needs, which makes policy gearing towards popping the asset bubble unpopular to the subset of demographic/voters currently in power. But unlike Singapore where government public rental housing is a thing, it really isn't here in the GTA (or North America in general) for all except the lowest-income population. Relegating housing entirely to pretty much the private sector alone is a giant public policy failure.

Not to diminish this particular achievement but that’s kind of a weird take - considering JWST. Also SiC was used for the 3.5m mirror on ESA’s Herschel (Far IR) telescope.
