I'm a transplant, moved here 15 years ago, which is around the time my yinzer friends shared it with me. (they also had to explain what a gumband is). one of my favorite pittsburgh phrases! i use it when i can and share it with people who don't live in pittsburgh if they'll think it's funny (which they almost always do).

right, but this person doesn't need police or EMTs, they need insulin. therefore, it wouldn't be a good use of emergency services, since the police would not do anything in this situation and EMTs could only drive this person to the ER, which they said they didn't want to do because it's prohibitively expensive.

social workers cannot call in prescriptions. only a doctor or nurse practitioner can do that.

911 will send an ambulance, which is not what this person needs (hopefully). calling 911 for a non-emergency situation is a waste of resources, especially on a busy holiday weekend.
