Sounds a bit like the series of attacks on power grids across the US that happened recently. Probably unrelated, but in the same vein. Kinda like the velociraptors in the first Jurassic Park film, too - testing the fences, looking for weaknesses to exploit.

And whose fault is it if a store closes because workers dare to talk about unionizing? The workers who want to earn a living wage? Or billionaire Howard Schultz, who owns the company and values paying himself and his stockholders above paying his workers a living wage?

When the air smells like demons, blame the coke works.

It might be helpful to remember that vinyl chloride doesn't smell like sulfur because it doesn't contain any sulfur. When vinyl chloride is concentrated enough to smell, it smells sweet.

Right?? It was literally the first place my partner and I got takeout when we moved to PGH last January. It remains one of our favorites. Every single thing I've ever gotten there - except for one - has been delicious. As for that one exception, it was stinky tofu. There's a reason it says "no refunds" for that item on the menu, haha. I'm a pretty adventurous eater as a rule. I got the stinky tofu - which is aptly named - past my nose and into my mouth. I chewed. I gagged. I tried to continue chewing. I gagged some more and finally had to admit defeat and spit it out. I'm sure it's a great rendition of the dish, it just tested the limits of my western palate. X-D

True. I was a union organizer at an R1 university and consulted with librarians there who were determined to win either a union or faculty status. (Because of state law if they got faculty status they would not be able to form a union because the law requires all faculty of all ranks to form one union. So adjuncts also can’t form their own union there, which absolutely sucks.)

Ohhhh my god. Their baked goods are fantastic in every way. Creative, interesting, delicious, beautifully presented, everything.

My partner and I stumbled in by pure happenstance late-ish one night and were blown away by how good everything was. We ordered a lot more than we were planning to when we walked in because neither one of us could decide on just one thing! We brought a bunch home with us and enjoyed it over the next...well, TBH by the same time the next night we had eaten everything, LOL.

>But I do fucking try to make the work lives of those around me better

How do you decide what "better" looks like to your employees, or whoever you mean by "those around [you]"? This is a serious question. Do you assume that what you think is better is, objectively, better, and then institute changes based solely on your own view of things? Or do you ask people what they need and have a conversation about it, with the goal of reaching an agreement about what changes would strike a better balance between what you need and what they need?

In the winter months I wear SPF on my face every day, but not on my body since I’m always wearing at least one long-sleeved shirt, and probably also a sweater and a jacket, scarf etc. if I’m outdoors. I am currently testing some Korean sunscreens recommended by Lab Muffin Beauty Science on YouTube. For basic skincare I use a mix of products from The Ordinary (cleanser, AHA, and moisturizer) and Paula’s Choice (retinol). I use both a plain moisturizer and a separate SPF product because many of them sting my eyes or are too sticky/occlusive. I also need them to be fragrance-free, which is an extra challenge. I’ve been using Korean face SPF because the formulations are so lovely to wear. As someone else said upthread, I wear SPF every day because I use retinol. For my body, I’ve been using CereMedX lotion and cream, which I get from Amazon. It works better for me than CeraVe.
