Stamford would be your best bet. You would be shaving off at least 30 min of train time (or more if you catch the express). But the cost of living is much higher there than in Stratford. So you have to weigh your pros and cons. Would you be commuting every day? If not, you can get away with Stratford.

If you plan on taking the train, plan for a 2 hour commute, give or take depending on how far you are from both stations. As for driving, I would not recommend it. I drive from Fairfield to Greenwich daily, and it takes me anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half during rush hour. So unless your hours are like, 7-3, you’re gonna have a bad time.

Pros:

  • The weather (cooler summer/warmer winter)
  • Breezes!
  • Walkability with wonderful views.
  • Things are pricier by the shore (taxes, homes, etc) so things are kept up a bit more, making the area look nice. (Mostly)
  • the beach is my happy place.

Cons:

  • crowded in the summer/ traffic
  • it’s expensive!
  • summer crowds can end up trashing the area

Black Rock resident who commutes to Greenwich here. I love my neighborhood. It’s very walkable and I generally feel safe (single female). During the summer, it’s great to walk down by the water, or visit the farmers market. Just be aware of your surroundings, which is true to any location. You won’t have the same vibe or nightlife as Stamford, it’s a bit more relaxed and low key up here. But there are great restaurants and Fairfield is 5 min away if you want a downtown feel. Your commute will be much longer than 30 min. That 30 min is with zero traffic. Train or driving, you’re going to need to budget an hour at least.
