Reply to comment by BulbousBeluga in How big is your personal library? Which genre takes up the majority? by G0Huskies
There's about 150 in my "to be read" stack. There's about 1,300 or so that are my girlfriend's that I haven't read as well. Between the two of us, about 200 total unread.

Neighborhood if 4,000 books. The biggest genres are sci-fi/fantasy, history, biographies, and general literature taking up 90% of the total about evenly split between them. The biggest category with the remaining 20% is cookbooks, with about 150.

The DJ in the Warriors may be the best example of this.

In 1982, my girlfriend would have been 10 years old.
Seems more like an Aerosmith thing to do than Allman Brothers.

Reply to Wednesday is great, but not so sure about the rest of the Addams family. by Automatic_Randomizer
Hard disagree with Luis Guzman.
I have the entire collection of Charles Addams' cartoons, and Guzman matches the vibe perfectly.
It took me a moment to catch onto Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, but in this show she is supposed to be a foil for Wednesday, and in the end she was a good choice for that role. Having said that, Angelica Huston is the GOAT of Morticias.
Pugsley is the younger sibling, and hasn't come into his own yet. Hoping for better stories for him if they'd a season 2
The practical Thing was amazing. At times my favorite part.
I usually give short shrift to Fred Armisen, and he's the third best live action Uncle Fester, but he sold his character.
I need more Lurch in my life.

I find a lot of it on Reddit, but IMDB sends me trailer notifications and I've searched enough movies that chrome serves me ads based on those searches.
I like the other comment here about searching Wikipedia for "2022 in Film," I use similar searches to get an idea of some of the popular culture in years gone by.

Reply to TIL Peter Weller, who played RoboCop, went on to get his Ph.D. in Italian Renaissance Art History and wrote his dissertation about Renaissance artist/philosopher Leon Battista Alberti by kamyizme
But you know what I remember most about him?
They said that he could stand, with his feet together like this, and spring straight over a man's head.
If Leon Battista Alberti couldn't have done that, I wouldn't have remembered a thing about him.

Reply to [WP] A deity rewards one of their most loyal followers by bringing their beloved childhood stuffed animal to life. by PolarisStorm
Calvin climbed up on the counter, and opened the cupboard door. He took out a can of tuna and a loaf of bread. Then he opened the other cupboard and took out a bowl.
He climbed back down, and took the mayo out of the fridge.
Carefully following the directions his mother had taught him, he mixed up the ingredients to make the filling, and precisely portioned it on the bread.
He placed the treasure on a plate, and left the house.
He took this out to the tree furthest from the house, and left it, with a piece of string loosely dangling from an overhead branch.
In the morning, he grabbed his pith helmet and ran downstairs.
He walked through the living room, and saw his father. "So long, Pop! I'm off to check my tiger trap!" he said. "I rigged a tuna fish sandwich yesterday, so I'm sure to have a Tiger by now!"
"They like tuna fish, huh?" his father calmly asked.
Calvin replied, "Tigers will do anything for a tuna fish sandwich!"
From the reeling Heavens, Spaceman Spiff, the Eldest God, Lord of Creation and Guardian of the Many Roads to the Infinite Hells, Eldritch One, Font of Thunder, Destroyer of the Unworthy saw this and rejoiced. There was a chance to double His Congregation.
The animal woke. It hung by one foot from a trap. In its forepaws it held an offering.
He knew that The Child would be coming soon. He knew, without understanding the whys of it, the conversation taking place a few hundred feet away.
He knew his name: Hobbes.
He took a bite of the offering. In the distant echo of the child's voice he heard the words, "Tigers will do anything for a tuna fish sandwich.
Around a mouthful of food, he spake: "We're kind of stupid that way."

Reply to ELI5: Morse code is made up of dots and dashes. How did telegraph operators keep from losing track of where one letter ended and another began? by copperdomebodhi
Telegraph operators practice quite a bit so they can tell the spacing between letters.
Once you learn telegraphy you can even tell who is sending the message based on their "hand," or how distinct their pattern is.
It's a skill that you get better at the more your use it.
