Think about it from Apple's side, the RCS implementation that is most widely used is controlled by Google and run through Google's servers.

Do you really think they'd want to hand that kind of control over users and their messages over to Google, regardless of whether it's encrypted? Apple has made a big push over the last little while of trying to appear security focused, a decision like that wouldn't help.

Also soon as Google opens up the API to allow third party texting apps like Textra to use RCS, then I might be more willing to believe Google wants to work with anyone on it rather than control it themselves.

>I don't want my photos automatically edited after I click the shutter button. This is my biggest problem with this phone and I really hope they address this because it's the first time since 2014 that I have thought about moving away from Apple to Samsung.

Yes Apple's Post-Processing is heavy but I'm pretty sure all smartphones automatically do processing and editing of the photos after clicking the shutter button.

I think you're going into this with the wrong mindset from the get-go. In your mind, the S22U is already a superior device due to the price and as you say, more features and better HW. That's not the way to look at switching, you already have an inherent bias.

If you're not using the Apple ecosystem in any way, shape or form, such as the Apple Watch, AirPods or Macbook then no, don't switch. The phone by itself is a great device but the device and software really shine with the connectivity between Apple's devices.

I made the jump to the 14PM a few months ago after a decade of purely Android devices and I'm not going to sugar coat it, you will get frustrated and annoyed the first few days of use.

You'll be used to the way Android does things and the difference can be jarring in certain aspects. The notifications on iPhone are pretty shit in comparison to Android and that's still my biggest sticking point but otherwise I can't say I regret my decision. Well other than the fact that I ended up buying an Apple Watch and then later on a Macbook in large part due to the ecosystem.

What I recommend you do is go to an Apple Store and buy the device outright. It's a large chunk of change yes but if you live somewhere with a 14 Day Return Policy, it gives you some time to test out the device and determine if you like it. Again though, the first few days could be frustrating so you have to push through that.

Alright, I'll give companies shit for things that are their fault but this one is not Apple's fault.

This is purely the fault of IT Departments that don't have proper policies and MDM in place for employees to prevent this from happening. It's also the fault of organizations that don't have proper offboarding procedures to remove these kinds of accounts from devices as well.

If companies are not stopping workers from entering their own personal iCloud details onto work devices, then all the devices ending up in landfills/being recycled are because of them, not Apple.

Turn off Google RCS if you use it, those texts will still go to your old device if you don’t.

Be prepared to learn new habits and get frustrated at first. As someone who used Android exclusively for a decade, there was a definite learning curve at first but everything becomes second nature fairly quickly.

Apollo for Reddit is generally considered the must have Reddit app but it’s decently pay-walled. Worth the money though imo.

If you’re using the Move to iOS app, double check and make sure EVERYTHING you want transferred over before setting the device up further. That function can only be used during the initial OOB setup so if say all your text messages don’t transfer over, you’ll have to reset the device back to Factory.

Also do yourself a favour and go into this with an open mind. If you go into it with the mindset of a self-professed Apple hater, you’ll like it even less.

Photo Management. I can forgive or deal with other stuff but the photo management on IPhone is complete ass. There is no reason why photos taken with the camera can’t be put into their own folder off the bat and there is no reason for photos that are part of an album to still show in recents.

One of the big ones I found is customization on the home screen.

Sure, one CAN add items to the Home Screen and organize them in folders but it's a tedious process and you can't sort them alphabetically unless you add them in that order (or maybe you can and I just haven't found a way).

Another example is App Settings. For the majority of apps on iOS, the settings are..well in the settings menu. Seems simple and it is but after years of Android, I'm used to always accessing settings for a specific app through that app itself.

Accessing open apps is different, on the N20U it was a simple button press, on the 14PM it's swiping up about halfway from the bottom of the screen to see your open apps.

I've also heard it's better to not force close your apps when you're done as iOS will handle the management in the background and close when needed, that it actually hurts your performance closing and re-opening them. I can't say how true that is but I've seen it mentioned a few times on here.

Those are just a few of the things I've noticed that requires some adjustment. Here's the thing, if you're still on the fence, go to the Apple store and buy a device. You have a 14 day Return Period (at least you do in Canada, I'm assuming it's the same elsewhere but double check at your own discretion) and just switch your daily driver to the Iphone and give it a test run.

My thought/feeling process basically went like the following when I did make the switch.

Day 1/2: I hate this thing, why did I do it. I'm just going to return it.

Day 3-5: Alright, I'm slowly getting the hang of it.

Day 6-10: I begrudgingly like this thing.

Day 11-14: Nah fuck it, I'm keeping this. I can live with the differences.

Others have already provided the majority of answers so I'll add something different. As someone who just made the jump after a decade of Android, be prepared to adjust your habits. Some things you do can transfer over from Android but others will not and the initial frustration and buyers remorse is very real.

I was ready to return the device after 2 days of use simply because of the adjustment period and how much things were annoying me, simply because I was trying to do them the Android way. You will most likely encounter things that always annoy you, there's just no way around it.
